The Aircraft - Tecnam P60 Light Sports Aircraft

The Tecnam is a comfortable, sturdy little aeroplane that is sold world wide by a very reputable manufacturer. It is a very safe aircraft, light on the controls, easy to handle both in the air and on the ground. It is an excellent trainer, suitable for all sizes and shapes. Persons learning to fly will complete a high performance advanced microlight licence which will entitle them to take passengers and fly in daylight, in good weather to any licenced airfield in New Zealand.

The licence is much simpler than the conventional General Aviation Licence. No bad weather instrument flying, night flying, or complex procedures designed for people moving forward in a career type role. You only have to be fit and healthy enough to pass a simple medical.

Training

Training to fly the Tecnam light sports aircraft with Microflight includes;
  • One on one tutoring to be able to pass 5 easy multiple choice exam papers.
  • A minimum of 35 hrs dual and solo flying training with a licenced instructor.
  • A theory and practical flight test.
  • Training over a period of time to suit your budget. The cost of a lesson is around $120 which fluctuates with the cost of operating the aircraft ie: petrol prices.
  • You will need to buy some navigational equipment, maps etc.
  • Join the HAC club which operates for the benefit of their members. You would have access to the club facilities and active social life.
Sport Aviation Corp is the governing body for our sport and they have a great web site www.sportflying.co.nz which has lots more information on what is involved in getting a Microlight Pilots License.
